Xiaomi is trying everything to make its presence felt in the wearable industry. After its $13 Mi Band and the rumored Apple killer smartwatch, it is the turn of smart shoes to hit the spot. The behind the scenes tech work will be handled by Huami whereas the collaboration with Li Ning to produce the smart running shoes is limited to the style and design part. The smart chip will find a place to stay in the soles and track your running. According to the press statement released by Li Ning, the movement will be transmitted to the Mi Band via Xiaomi mobile app. The data will help the runners to understand their weak areas and analyze their form. The press release also emphasized that it is the first-of-its-kind partnership between sports and smart technology in China province.
It is an interesting fact to know that Li Ning is known as the Chinese Nike while Xiaomi is called the Apple of China.
For Xiaomi, it is the effort to register on the global map and for Li Ning; it is the attempt to revive its sports brand once again with the help of wearable tech. The Reuters reports that Li Ning, the Chinese athletic gear brand has posted full-year loss three times in a row following the restructuring costs, overstock and slow demands post 2008 Beijing Olympics.
