ASUS ZenWatch 2: Three Colors and Two Sizes But Does This Seal the Deal?

At #Computex in Taipei, Taiwan, ASUS ZenWatch saw its sequel. We told you that ASUS ZenWatch 2 will compete with Samsung Gear S but hey, cut some slack will ya because Apple Watch wasn’t here yet. Won’t comment on how Apple Watch Reviews have been mixed of sorts but it certainly has shook the grounds given that most of makers want to match it or simply want to go beyond its charisma.

ASUS ZenWatch 2 retains the classy look of its predecessor but for me, fails to recreate the magic of ASUS ZenWatch.

I went simply WOW when the debutante wearable from the Taiwanese company was launched. But this time, it fails because while ASUS ZenWatch was the elegant yet cheaper Android Wear smartwatch on the block, the recent attempt looks closer to creating a cheaper Apple Watch and offers nothing to blow my mind away.

ASUS ZenWatch made its entry to the wearable segment 6 months ago but we are already toying with the new Android Wear based sequel. At Computex, the ASUS ZenWatch 2 was launched in two sizes, 18mm straps and 22mm straps to fit sensibly and comfortably. The latter larger model has ‘Chargeback’ feature to juice it up more power in battery emergencies.

The stainless steel body colors you get this time are silver, the signature rose-gold and gunmetal. Additionally, you get a range of 18 bright straps made of materials like metal, soft leather and rubber. Pay some extra and you can get leather strap embossed with diamond pattern and Swarovski crystals.

The connecting app also lets you customize the watch face, lending ZenWatch 2 a highly personalized appeal.

The sequel smartwatch has a side button that is a deal breaker for me. Except for it and a powerful processor, other details are quite same, be it the AMOLED screen or Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen. Additionally, it has an improved IP67 rating for dust and water-resistance. The plastic charging cradle is replaced with magnetic cable, which is more convenient charging option.

Along with ZenWatch 2, the connecting ASUS Wellness smartphone app also goes under design change and is better equipped to track your fitness activities. ZenWatch 2 also rolls in an improved Remote Camera feature that lets you handle phone camera with ease.
