Guess what! Guess Connect is all blinged up!

Guess Connect made an eye-popping debut at CES 2015 and won CES 2015 innovation award. The all-bling analogue watch has some pretty moves to show off. Running high on fashion, it does not look like a smartwatch at all. Traditional watch makers and fashion houses, which were caught unguarded in the storm of wearables, are now bucking up to make some moolah and offer some relevancy to the modern audience.

As the segment of smartwatches become crowded than ever, the watchmaker change their pitch and design strategy to accommodate the times of future. The smartwatch cannot look like a brick and the days of regular watches are over. Hence, we have Withings Activité Pop, LG collaborating with design houses and Burg offering smartwatches with Swarovski crystals on them. Let us just not talk about Apple Watch because it is a different take altogether.

Guess’s leading watch line, Rigor has the technical tryst with Martian and is now dubbed as Guess Connect. With an analog watch face, dial on the right, control buttons and one-line OLED banner display space for incoming alerts, it is the child of smartwatch and regular watch.  The Martian-Guess watches have five variants in total that are Guess Connect, Martian Aviator, Martian Electra, Martian Monarch and Martian Commander. Guess Connect is expected to be the most blinged-up, high-end entry and the most expensive of all.  Like Martian Passport, all of them can act on voice commands, can be charged via USB port and has battery that can last for several days.

Users can customize the vibration alert so that if you think you could attend to the phone call later, you can. Tap on the watch glass to recall the latest notification. The compatible app is available for Android and Apple phones. The built-in microphone lets you speak to the watch and is compatible with Siri and Google Voice. The watch is water-resistant too.

Martian is not a new name in the history of smartwatches. Known to create quartz-driven or analog watches, it prefers smaller display area and not a dedicated full screen. The in-built mic and speaker is Martian’s USP so far and which means that it can turn any regular watch into a smart piece. It relies on the dual-mode function for the voice commands and switches to Bluetooth Low Energy to display notifications. It implies that the mechanical functions are juiced by regular watch battery, which has a lifespan of about two years and the rest of smartwatch capabilities are fuelled by USB. This enhances the performance of the battery. Given the smaller size of the notification area, the quartz movement or time-telling of the watch still functions. And this makes Guess Connect a hybrid watch that we have been seeing from the likes of Redline and Crossbow. However, it is still by far the most attractive one and deserves every word of this piece.

The design influence of the Guess is remarkable and despite the oversized face, it has luxury and elegance written all over it. It still lags behind from being termed as a fully-functional smartwatch yet for the section who would love to own a fashion smartwatch with little technical side to it, there is nothing like it. If you want to see how it fares in real-life, do not miss Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and be at Wearables Pavilion from March 2 to 5.
